Ampthill
Town Cricket Club
RULES AND CONSTITUTION - AS AT 13TH OCTOBER 2004
1. The Club shall be called the 'Ampthill Town Cricket Club'.
Ampthill Town Cricket Club is a non-profit making amateur club.
The main purpose of the club is to provide facilities for the playing of cricket in Ampthill and
the surrounding area. Membership is open to all without discrimination.
2. The Club colours to be red and gold and the Club badge to be a rampant red lion on a gold
background.
3. The Club consists of a President, Life Vice-Presidents, Vice-Presidents, playing members
and social members.
A. The President and Vice-Presidents to be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting
held in October each year.
B. Life
Vice-Presidents to be honoured for services rendered to the Club.
C. All new playing
members and social members must be approved by the Committee.
4. New applicants for membership of the club can apply via the Membership Secretary, or any
committee member, and will receive an application form to be completed and returned to the
Membership Secretary for processing. The committee will discuss the application, to be granted membership a majority of the committee must vote in favour of the new members application. On receiving committee approval the new member will receive a letter of acceptance together with a copy of the rules and constitution.
The
Membership Secretary pending full committee approval can grant temporary
membership during the playing season.
5. The subscription shall be £65.00 per year for playing members other than schoolboys and
students. This sum will be reduced to £45.00 if paid before 1st January, and £55.00 if paid before the 1st May. Students and Youth Team members in full time education and students
receiving a grant or unemployed to pay an annual subscription of £5.00, which is due before
the 1st June. A match fee of £6.00 will be paid by all persons other than school- boys and
students for each match they play which will include a free tea where applicable.
Schoolboys and students will pay a match fee of £3.50 and will include free tea where
applicable. Midweek evening match fee will be £1.50 adults and £1 students
Indoor league match fee:- Bunyan Centre £5.50 for adults and £4.50 for students / Schoolboys
Bedford School £4.50 for adults and £3.50 for students / Schoolboys.
Persons playing in the Youth Team will not be required to pay a match fee in Youth
Team games. New playing members joining after 1st June will have their subscription
determined by the Committee. Any person who fails to pay in accordance with this rule shall not be selected to play in preference to paid up members.
The subscription for social members shall be £5.00 per year.
Youth family membership is £10 (includes parents and youth players)
A
member’s list will be kept and updated by the Membership Secretary who will be
elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.
6. The Management of the Club shall be vested in the President, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, the
Captains,
Vice-Captains, Hon-Secretary, Hon-Treasurer, Hon-Fixture Secretary, Membership
Secretary and a committee of no more than 6 to be elected at the AGM each year.

The purchase and supply of intoxicating liquor shall be under the control
of a Sub-Committee of the Club Committee which shall be known as the Licensing
Sub-Committee and shall consist of the Club Chairman, the Club Secretary, the
Club Treasurer and two other members of the Club Committee to be elected at the
A.G.M. each year in accordance with Schedule 7 paragraph 4 (2) of the Licensing
Act 1964. The Licensing Sub-Committee shall appoint from its members a Bar
Steward.
8.
At the A.G.M. and Special General Meeting only paid up playing members,
non playing officers, non playing committee members, Vice-Presidents, Life
Vice-Presidents and the President all of the past season shall be entitled to
vote.
9.
Selection of the weekend Club teams shall be undertaken by the weekend
team captains or their nominated substitute at a selection committee meeting, to
be held on the Monday evening of each week, at the Club pavilion. The day and time of such a meeting may be altered by
agreement among the captains. Teams should be posted on the club notice board.
The weekend captains shall also select the midweek all day and afternoon
game teams.
The
midweek league captain and his vice-captain shall select the midweek league
teams, and this selection need not take place at the Monday evening Selection
Committee Meeting, although selected sides should be notified to the Selection
Committee and posted to the Club notice board.
A
Chairman of Selectors, who will be a member of the main Club Committee and not a
weekend team captain, shall head the Selection Committee.
The Chairman of Selectors shall conduct the Selection Committee Meetings
and have only a deciding vote in the case of stalemate on matters of selection.
The Saturday 1st XI Captain shall be the Club Captain.
10. The
Club shall hold its current bank account with the National Westminster Bank plc,
Ampthill, and all cheques to be signed by the Hon. Treasurer and by one other
member whose signature has been forwarded to the Bank by the Committee.
11. All accounts of the Club shall be kept by the Hon. Treasurer and shall be audited prior
to the AGM each year. The
Hon. Treasurer shall be appointed annually at the AGM.
Any member holding Club money will pay this over to the Treasurer, or in his absence the
Secretary, at each Committee Meeting together with details of the amount.
12. At each AGM the Hon. Treasurer shall present an income and expenditure account as at the
30th September preceding the meeting.
13. The Main Committee shall meet once during each month, five to form a quorum. The Hon.
Treasurer shall be ready to submit a financial statement at these
meetings.
14. Upon a written application signed by seven members of the Club, the Hon. Secretary may
summon a Special General Meeting but in such case no business shall be transacted except
that for which the meeting was called.
15. The Hon. Secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings of the Committee as well as of the
AGM and Special Meetings.
16. No alteration of the rules to be made except at the AGM or at a special meeting called under
Rule 14. Ten days notice of any proposed alteration shall be given to the Hon. Secretary
prior to the date of these meetings.
17.
The Committee has power to fill any vacancy during its term of office.
18.
The Committee has power to hire out or loan equipment, ground or other
facilities.
19.
Except in extenuating circumstances all players to wear white clothing.
20. Awards to be at the discretion of the Awards Sub-Committee consisting of the
President, Chairman, Vice Chairman and each team captain.
21. One
member of the Committee shall be responsible for the organisation, purchasing
and preparation of the teas on both Saturday and Sunday in order to reduce the
burden on all Captains. Tea girls can be appointed to undertake this work whose
remuneration will be agreed by the committee.
Visitor’s teas will be £32 per team (costs to be reviewed each
season).
22. SALE SUPPLY AND CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR
(i) Persons under the age of 18 years.
There shall be no sale supply or consumption of alcohol on behalf of the Club on the
Club premises to any person under the age of 18 years.
(ii) Persons entitled to purchase and consume alcohol on the Club
premises (other than
Club Members)
Alcoholic liquor may be supplied by and on behalf of the Club for consumption on the
premises by all or any of the following persons who may be admitted to the Club
Premises:
(a) Visiting members of other Clubs engaged in fixtures against the Club;
(b) The guests of any such visiting members at the Visiting member's
expense;
(c) Official guests of the Club invited to any Club function;
(d) Visiting members of other Cricket Clubs attending Club functions and their
Guests at the visiting member's expense on such occasions.
PROVISO: That all such persons as referred to in sub-paragraph (a) - (d) shall be
over the age of 18 years and shall not be entitled to purchase alcoholic liquor for
consumption off the Club premises.
(iii)
The purchase of alcoholic liquor for and supplied by the Club shall be at
the absolute discretion of the sub-committee know as the Licensing Sub-Committee
referred to in Clause 7 of these Rules. In
the event of any member of the Licensing Sub-Committee ceasing to be a member of
the full committee he shall automatically cease to be a member of the Licensing
Sub-Committee and another elected member of the full Committee shall be
appointed in his place.
(iv)
All alcoholic liquor in excisable commodities which may be acquired or purchased
shall be held on behalf of the members and shall be under the control of the
Licensing Sub-Committee and be supplied only to members subject to payment of
such charges as the Licensing Sub-Committee may from time to time determine
after consultation with the full Committee.
No such articles shall be sent away from the Club premises.
23. The permitted hours
The Club's licensed bar facilities shall have the following permitted
hours:
Monday to Saturday inclusive
11.00 am to
11.00 pm
Sunday 12.00 noon to 10.30
pm
Notwithstanding
that the licensed bar facilities shall not be available other than above and
notwithstanding that the premises shall not be open to members more than half an
hour after the end of permitted hours the Club premises shall be open to members
at all other times as the Committee shall decide.
24. Notwithstanding
Rule 22 above (which restricts the sale and supply of intoxicating liquor to
certain classes of persons) there may be sales of intoxicating liquor for
consumption on the premises to persons other than members and their guests who
are admitted to the premises to attend functions organised for the benefit of
the Club on not more than eight occasions per calendar year.

Any net assets on the dissolution of the club to be distributed for
approved sporting or charitable purposes
