Letter From Graeme Presswell

Dear Parent

Ampthill Town CC Youth Section 2003

In order to field competitive representative sides at U11, U13 & U15 next year, we are going to need more manpower in 2003.  Many thanks are due to those who helped this season, in particular to Barbara Blundell and Graeme Presswell, without who little cricket would have been played.  Thanks are also due to the principle coaches, Karl Howson, John Wakely, James Sneath and James Potter.

Individual players will have more opportunity to improve if they can have more personal coaching.  At present our coach/player ratios make this difficult and in some group coaching sessions the coach can spend more time managing the group than coaching.  Although as a club we have more qualified coaches than any other club in the county, coaches have had difficulty making themselves available for matches and training due to work and playing commitments.

We intend to increase the level of individual coaching for next season and a considerable amount of technical work on batting, bowling and fielding will be carried out during the close season.  This will be refined and reinforced during the playing season.  Our senior coaches will be more available next year with reduced county commitments and we hope to coordinate training so that our younger coaches can continue to contribute.

BUT more help with managing sides and basic coaching would improve the overall performance of our youth sides.

Parents can get involved and contribute in several ways.  Managers for each age group are essential, their major role being to ensure that teams turn up for matches and training when required. No specific cricket skills are required, just a little time and lots of enthusiasm.

Parental help at training/net sessions can be invaluable, even if it is just helping with time management.

If you want to get more involved, then you can become a coach yourself.  ECB level 1 courses are run regularly and involve 2 weekends and an assessment.  The club is able to fund the costs of this training so again all that is needed is a little time and lots of enthusiasm.

If you are unable to make that level of commitment, the club intends to run a basic cricket skills course over a day which will make you a more than useful member of the coaching team next season.  Coaching for the junior age groups starts in November, so if you would like to be involved then please contact us. Your Club needs you!

Contact Graeme Presswell on 01462-731011 if you would like any further information.
