COVERING LETTER

E-mail: Mark.A.Smith@ampthill.org.uk

To Whom It May Concern:

Firstly, I am extremely self motivated, as can be witnessed by my attainment of an Upper Second Class B.Sc. (Honours) Degree, in Social Sciences/ Politics, through the Open University. This was undertaken over a 6-year period, during which I was suffering from Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. Two Bone Marrow Transplants later and 4 years in remission, this highlights both my ability to achieve set objectives and my commitment to work productively under immense pressure.

Secondly, my 14-year background in the Insurance Sector would stand me in good stead, as I have gained invaluable experience in that time. Working as part of a team, I have learnt to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues alike, including the drafting of necessary letters and associated documentation, whilst dealing with any problems in a sensitive manner.

Thirdly, over the past few years I have undertaken Voluntary work, within the local Citizens Advice Bureau. My work has primarily consisted of updating their information systems and using these to research cases for advisors when needed.  I have since become the Chief Officer of the Community Voluntary Service in Mid Bedfordshire, furthering my interest in the Voluntary Sector.

Fourthly, I am deeply involved in the life of my local town, as I am a Town Councillor, a Lower School Governor and a member of the organizing committee for our town festival. Additionally, I am responsible for the creation of our towns highly regarded website.

Thus, in conclusion, I would implore any perspective employer to look past my period of ill health, as I would undoubtedly be an asset to any organization or company.
